NARUTO CARD GAME reveal: every rule and card explained

Bandai spent thirteen months saying almost nothing about the NARUTO CARD GAME. On July 29, 2026, one day before Gen Con opened, it said nearly everything at once: the rules framework, the first real cards with full ability text, and a pre-release event roadmap running through to launch.

Here is what is actually confirmed and, just as usefully, what is not.

The deck skeleton

Every deck is built the same way:

• 1 Leader card: sits outside the main deck
• 50 main deck cards: Characters and EX Characters
• exactly 5 Chakra cards
• exactly 1 Summon card

That is 57 cards in total. Bandai's English press release phrases it as "a deck of 51 cards, 5 Chakra cards, and 1 Summon card"; the Japanese site prints デッキ50枚 (a 50-card deck) in two places, so the English figure almost certainly folds the Leader into the count. The rules page keeps this note current if Bandai clarifies.

Bandai's press release states that "a player's cards and strategies are determined by the color of their Leader," so your Leader choice constrains the pool you may build from. What it has not published is how many copies of a single card number a deck may contain, a detail that shapes competitive deckbuilding more than almost anything else.

Five card types, and Ninjutsu isn't one

This is the detail most early coverage has gotten wrong, so it is worth being precise. Bandai names exactly five types:

• Leader: the heart of the deck. Games are won when a Leader's Life hits zero.
• Character: the front line. Attacks, and some unleash Jutsu by paying Chakra.
• EX Character: high-impact Characters, playable only once conditions are met.
• Chakra: the resource pool, spent on Jutsu and Support effects.
• Summon: required to bring Character cards into battle.

Ninjutsu is not a card type. It is a Jutsu: an ability printed on a Character card and activated from hand by paying a Chakra cost. On Kakashi Hatake (N-009) it reads Support [1 CHAKRA]: Lightning Blade. Anywhere you see a site listing "Ninjutsu cards" alongside Leaders and Chakra, that list is wrong.

How you win

You reduce the opposing Leader's Life to zero. Leaders print DMG, POW and LIFE; Characters print DMG, POW and HP. Both revealed Leaders, Naruto Uzumaki (N-001) and Sasuke Uchiha (N-012), start at DMG 1 / POW 3 / LIFE 15, which sets a fairly long clock by TCG standards.

Whether running out of cards also loses you the game has not been stated.

Chakra refreshes: it doesn't burn

The most interesting mechanical wrinkle is that Chakra is not a one-way resource. Costs are paid by flipping Chakra face-down, and both Leaders carry a [Recovery] ability that rests the Leader to flip all of your Chakra face-up again, from the second turn onward.

That makes Chakra a renewable pool with a tempo cost attached, and it means denying the refresh is already a design axis. Shisui Uchiha (N-016) does exactly that: his Koto Amatsukami negates a Support and then stops you turning Chakra face-up until the end of your next turn's End Phase.

Support abilities are the interaction layer

A large share of revealed Characters print a named Jutsu with a Chakra cost and a timing window. The timings shown so far:

• [During Your Main]: sorcery-speed effects, like Naruto's Rasengan (N-004), which K.O.s all Characters
• [During Your Opponent's Attack]: reactive removal and interruption. Shikamaru Nara (N-008) can summon himself and interrupt that attack
• [Support Activated]: the counterspell slot. Kakashi's Lightning Blade negates a card at the cost of 2 of your own Life
• [Quick]: summons the card as part of resolving its effect

Because Supports fire from hand, a face-down Chakra pool is also a threat representation. That is a meaningful amount of interaction to show this early.

EX Characters cost you Characters

Every revealed EX Character reads "Cannot be summoned normally" and prints [Summon Requirements] that place your own Characters into the trash. Gamabunta (N-025) demands a Character with 10 or more power be discarded; Naruto (N-003) wants two Characters, one of them 10-power or better.

They pay for it with the biggest bodies revealed so far: N-003 is POW 11 / HP 10 with [Rush].

The roadmap

• July 30 to August 2, 2026: world debut at Gen Con Indianapolis
• October 2026 to early 2027: BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest 26-27, across 11 cities
• October 8 to 11, 2026: New York Comic Con
• Also touring: PAX Australia, Spiel Essen, Paris Games Week, Lucca Comics & Games
• January 2027: in-store tutorial sessions begin
• Summer 2027: simultaneous worldwide release

What is still unknown

Bandai has not published a turn structure, opening hand size, mulligan rules, copy limits, rarity distribution, set names, or the text of any individual Chakra or Summon card. We are not going to guess at them. Our rules guide lists the gaps explicitly, and we will fill them in as Bandai confirms them.
